In an op-ed for NBC News Think, Vice Chair Of the Treasury Department’s New Racial Equity Committee, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, announced the goals of the committee and how they plan to defund the police. “In order to reallocate resources away from law enforcement, we need to first invest in our social safety net and public goods so that people can lead dignified lives,” wrote Ocasio-Cortez. The committee, which is made up of members of Congress, will focus on passing legislation that will put an end to mass incarceration, invest in social programs, and expand voting rights, among other things.

“I think we have to be clear about the goals here, and we need to work on our strategy accordingly. There are lots of ways to attack this problem. There are multiple strategies that will get us there, and where I think Democrats should differ from Republicans is not the policy outcomes we seek but rather how we get those that can influence outcomes.”

“We have a better story about how we build our democracy,” she said. “That’s the bigger difference between us, not necessarily what specific outcome or individual policies should look like. We ought to be debating that; it ought not to preclude debate in order to try and come up with together what works best.””Our long-term goal is to build an America that meets all its people’s needs,” concluded Ocasio-Cortez.

As the Vice Chair of the Treasury Department’s new racial equity committee, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has outlined plans for defunding the police and reallocating funds toward social programs. If this plan is put into motion, then the Democrats have succeded in bringing Socialism to America. Republicans will be the blame if this is successful. If Republicans don’t come out and vote the Democrats out of power in the mid-term elections, than yes we are the blame.

Under Ocasio-Cortez’s plan, the government would redirect money away from police departments and instead invest in social programs that address the root causes of crime. This would include programs like affordable housing, mental health services, and job training. The goal would be to reduce the need for police intervention in the first place.

Ocasio-Cortez’s proposal is just one of many that have been put forth in the wake of George Floyd’s death. While some have called for incremental reform, others have advocated for more radical changes, like defunding the police entirely..

Order to address the systemic racism that exists within law enforcement. The issue of police reform has come to the forefront of the national conversation in recent years, in the wake of several high-profile police shootings of unarmed black men and women. The Black Lives Matter movement has called for an end to police brutality and racial injustice and has advocated defunding police departments across the country.

The Treasury Department’s racial equity committee was formed in response to the protests that have taken place over the past year. The committee aims to address systemic racism within the American legal system. In order to do this, the committee is looking at a number of different options, including redirecting funds away from the police.

Ocasio-Cortez argues that in order to address the issue of police brutality effectively, we need to invest in social programs and restorative justice initiatives. She also believes that we need to end mass incarceration in America. The congresswoman’s proposal to redirect funds away from the police has received criticism from some, who argue that it is a radical and dangerous idea. However, Ocasio-Cortez believes that it is necessary in order to create a more just and equitabled society.
