President Joe Biden’s “Where’s Jackie?” episode has led some Republicans to question his cognitive abilities and whether he is up for the job, while Democrats are dismissing the episode as a non-story. The episode occurred on Wednesday when Biden was meeting with reporters and was asked about his meeting with Jackie Abu-Sayed, a civil rights activist.”Where’s Jackie?” Biden said before quickly correcting himself and saying he meant “Where’s Jill?” His wife’s name is Jill, not Jackie.

Some Republicans say the episode is cause for concern, while Democrats say it is being blown out of proportion. Several Republican lawmakers shared their concerns about President Biden’s latest gaffe in which he appeared to search for the late Rep. Jackie Walorski, R-Ind., in a crowd while calling out for her. During his remarks at the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health on Wednesday, Biden appeared to search for Walorski, who died in a car accident last month.

“I want to thank all of you here, including bipartisan elected officials like … Senator Braun, Senator Booker, Representative … Jackie, Jackie, are you here?” Biden said, searching for the late congresswoman. “I think she was going to be here to help make this a reality.” Walorski’s seat is now vacant.”It was pretty clearly a mistake by the president,” Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., said on Fox & Friends. “Obviously, we all make mistakes, but it’s pretty stunning that he would call out for someone who passed away almost a month ago.”

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., also called the moment “jarring.” “That’s not a good thing,” Issa said on Fox & Friends. “In fact, it was jarring to me when I saw it because I’ve served with Jackie Walorski. She was a good friend, and not knowing she passed away is pretty stunning.”Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., also took to Twitter to express his disbelief at Biden’s remarks.

“Weird flex but ok,” Cotton tweeted. “If President Biden were having trouble remembering Jackie Walorski’s name and not the fact she died, presidential courtesy would necessitate he consult with incoming Vice President Kamala Harris before shot out that Ummm.” NBC News reported that sources close to Biden said the president had not heard of Walorski’s death before making the remarks. “I don’t think we’re trying to assign blame here,” Rep. Tom Cole, R, told NBC News. “The fact is, it would have been nice if he’d been informed by somebody on his staff.”Rep. Tom Cole told NBC News.

According to the Chicago Tribune, “Biden’s gaffe is similar to one he made in December 2015 at Fort Campbell when he spoke about the presidential campaign — and the death of soldier Aaron Peck — just a few hours after Peck had committed suicide.” In February 2019, Walorski voted for $12 billion for improved border security funding (ended January 25th, 2019, government shutdown), including provision for 230 miles of the barrier wall on the US-Mexico border.

Around this same time, she was excluded from voting by some as a co-sponsor of H.Res 183 that supported H.R 1 For The People Act introduced in January that day; will host a town hall at Plymouth High School next Monday night where questions will be allowed only if they are submitted in advance through her website.
